Did you do something wrong or is this problem just a test?

Test, Bible, trouble, sickness, Job

Sometimes we are just going through a test.

If we at Wellness Gospel have given you the impression that you will never get sick  if you do  things the way we suggest; we apologize, we have miss-communicated. Sometimes we as Christians are just going through a test!

Test, Bible, trouble, sickness, Job
The perfect Christian doing everything just right.

From time to time people lump us together with the preachers who tell people that if they have enough faith they will never experience problems or get sick. They are the name it and claim it crowd. When you or I get sick and can’t get well, they blame it on “our” lack of faith. This kind of help isn’t Biblical, it is not nice and it is not true. Let’s get real, not all sickness is a result of doing something wrong or not having enough faith, sometimes it is just a test.

Years ago we had a group of people at our church that were telling everyone that whatever people said was what would come to pass. They told us if you say something like, “I’ll just die if that person doesn’t like me” then you will die. If you say, “this new job will make me rich” then you will get rich. Again, let’s get real, all you have to do is try this to find out that it isn’t true, It is not how God works. If this doctrine were true we  would all be dead and rich! 🙂

Test, Bible, trouble, sickness, Job
If that doctrine were true, we would all be dead and rich!

We believe that “generally speaking,” if we follow God’s advice we will be healthy. But, that does not mean that we will never get sick or have bad things happen to us.

There are a lot of things in the Bible that are meant to be taken as a generally rule, but not meant to be a formula.

A great example would be Psalm 15:1. This passage says…

“A soft answer turns away wrath,
but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

This is generally true, but not always true. Everyone has experienced a time when they gave an angry person a soft answer and that person just got madder. Generally; it will calm people down, but not always. If we are to be honest and real with ourselves, we know this to be true. We have all experience a time when someone was mad at us and we spoke softly and respectfully and the person was still angry. There are millions of battered spouses who can tell you that a soft answer does not work on truly mean people. Giving a soft answer to a mean drunk won’t stop them from hurting people. This applies to other things in the Bible that people want to make into a formula. Most advice in the Bible is  meant to be generally true.

So what should we do when we get sick?

Test, Bible, trouble, sickness, Job

When we are sick, the first thing we should do is check to see if we are violating those general rules. Lets get that out of the way first, for example…

  • Are you getting enough rest? You were made in God’s image, he rested on the seventh day so are you taking one day a week to just rest?
  • Are you getting enough sleep? Psalm 127 says that God gives sleep to those he loves and that we are not to rise up early and stay up late eating the bread of anxious toil. We are to work a reasonable number of hours a day, and then trust that God will take care of all our needs.
  • Are you angry at anyone, do you have a generally cheerful heart? God say that a merry heard is a cure.
  • Eating the things God said to eat, (Red meat, milk, eggs, fish, honey, butter, salt, etc) and avoiding the things God said would harm you, (Pork, shellfish, highly processed food, sugar, etc)
  • Walking with God? Are you regularly doing something that you know God does not want you to do? Are you regularly using your God given gifts to advance God’s kingdom.

If you have checked yourself on the above and you can “generally” say you are following God’s advice, then maybe you are like Job in the Bible, you are experiencing trouble because you are one of God’s favorite people and you are just going through a test.

You might be experiencing sickness because, like Job, you are one of God’s favorite people!

Yep! It is possible that your problem isn’t because you are doing something wrong, but instead it is because you are a child of God and doing something right. You, like Job may be experiencing a test. It has been said that the only time a teacher doesn’t’ answer your questions, is during a test! Job experience this and maybe you are experiencing this now. Be patient, tests always come to an end.

Someone might say that we are not Job, and his story was written in the old testament so it doesn’t apply to us today. But, we cannot say that, because Paul wrote in the new testament that the things in the old testament were written as examples to us, to warn us. They are things that could happen to us. What happened to Job could happen to you or me.  1 Corinthians 10:11 states…

“These things (stories in the old testament) happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.”

So what happened to Job?

Test, Bible, trouble, sickness, Job
Satan had afflicted job with painful sores. Job is surrounded by friends who are trying to get him to confess what he did wrong.

In a nutshell what happened to Job goes something like this, check it out for your self by reading the book of Job.

  • Chapter 1 God is bragging about Job and what a wonderful person he is. Satan over-hears it and tells God that the only reason Job is so good is because God is protecting him and blessing him. Satan tells God, ” if you just let me take his stuff he will curse you”. God tells Satan, go ahead you will see that you are wrong. Satan does his worst and Job suffers greatly but does not curse God.
  • Chapter 2  God basically says, see you were wrong about Job. Satan says it was just because you didn’t let me make him sick, if you let me touch his body then he will curse you. Once again God says go ahead, he will still not curse me. Satan does his worst, covering Job’s body with painful sores.  Job maintains his integrity and does not curse God.
  • The following chapters are full of “friends” telling Job that he must have done something wrong. In the end God restores Job’s health and all his stuff, times two. Then God rebukes Job’s friends for accusing Job of doing wrong simply because he was sick.

This is what the new testament calls a test!

James 1:12

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him.

Not every sickness is a direct result of someone’s doing something wrong!

The Bible says our enemy the Devil stands before God day and night accusing us of doing something wrong, (Revelations 12:10). When we submit to God and his advice, when we resisting the Devil and his temptation to give up and get angry with God. The Bible says the Devil, will flee from us.

“Submit yourselves, then, to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”      (James 4:7)

“The thief (Satan) comes only to kill steal and destroy, Jesus Christ came that we may have life and that abundantly.John 10:10

So what are we to do when the Devil attacks us and puts us to the test? When we go on mission trips that are going to be incredibly productive for the kingdom of God, we are always met with strong resistance.

Story of a test for teen missionaries in Mexico.

On one trip, just before an evangelistic meeting, one of our leading youth, Tim Ray, came down with all the symptoms of the flu, aches, pains, nausea, vomiting, etc.  We were in the city of Durango north of Mexico City, Tim had a lead part, in a powerful gospel drama, and there was no one to replace him. So what did we do? We prayed for him and he bravely continued on, sick as a dog. Tim actually threw up while waiting for his part in the drama. When we finished the drama and had shared the Gospel, Tim realized that he was completely healed. He had resisted the enemy’s attempt to stop him from ministering and the enemy left him. Tim passed the test by continuing to minister. On that trip, over 3000 people prayed to receive Jesus Christ as their savior.

Test, Bible, trouble, sickness, Job
Missionaries from our local church preaching the gospel in Mexico.

It is common for veteran missionaries to actually prejudge the effectiveness of a mission trip by how much resistance they get from the enemy before and during the trip, how much testing.

“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”  1 Peter 5:8

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground”        Ephesians 6:10-13a

It is not our wrongdoing it is just a test!

Notice, it’s not our armor, it’s God’s full armor!

It’s not our power; it’s God’s mighty power!

Jesus’ armor gives us the power to resist the Devil, and if we resist him, he (The Devil) will flee.  It is not about you or me, it is always about Jesus.

Competed in the Senior Games, came home with some great health tips.!

Senior games, Bible, health, wellness, science, Otto Warburg, cancer, Senior track meet,

I did it!

Senior games, Bible, health, wellness, science, Otto Warburg, cancer, Senior track meet,
2017 Senior Games Track Meet. That’s me with my painting shoes.

Well I did it, I entered the Oregon Senior Games!

I decided to see if following God’s principles for health really makes a difference in strength and longevity. When I go to the store I see all these people my age hobbling to and from their cars. They look like every step hurts. Maybe it’s their feet, or knees maybe it is their hips and back. I feeI sorry for them, I really think that if they knew what I know they could feel young again. I feel great, like I did In high school. But the question; is that really unusual?

Maybe there are a lot of people my age that feel this good.

Senior games, bible, Health, cancer, immune system

So I decided to see if following God’s advice has made me unusually healthy. I decided to compete in the 2017 Oregon  Senior games, to see how I compared with some of the fittest seniors in Oregon. The track meet was held in Bend Oregon, which was enough to get my wife on board, she loves the weather there.  I competed in three events, the fifty meter dash, the 100 meter dash and the shot put. The only thing I actually practiced at was the shot put. I practiced four times! I hadn’t sprinted for anything in over a year; hey when you are 65 there just aren’t that many reasons to sprint.

When I got to the Senior Games!

When I got to the Senior Games, I found out that most of the people who were competing actually worked out, training for their events and they had personal trainers to boot. They also had track shoes and used starting blocks. I hoped they didn’t notice my 10 year old tennis shoes I had used while painting my house. The other guys had track shorts and shirts. Are they really that much lighter than regular shorts? I thought I look my best in a cotton “Jesus is” T-shirt I got for free at church.

Right before a race, noticed I was one of the only sprinters without sun glasses. I don’t even own a pair of sun glasses, and how does that make you faster?  The guys in the shot put were dressed more like me but the two guys who beat me (by a foot) were over three hundred pounds and had arms  as big as my legs. Obviously, I have a lot to learn about senior track and field sports.

Most of the contestants used to be really exceptional athletes.

Most of the contestants at the senior games, were old people who used to be great athletes. One guy I talked to had been a professional soccer player. Most of the contestants looked like they were falling apart. A 64 year old, who the other guys said was super-fast, his name was Steve, told me he had four braces on to hold himself together. He had an ankle brace, a back brace and two knee braces. Steve said the reason he didn’t have five braces was because the rules only allow four.

Steve asked me if I was fast and hoped I wasn’t in his bracket, because he thought I looked fast. I told him I never was fast; in college the lineman on the football team could beat me in the fifty-yard dash. I told him my only hope of winning was that all the fast guys my age had fallen apart by now.

My only hope, was that all the fast guys had fallen apart by now!

Senior games, Bible, health, wellness, science, Otto Warburg, cancer, Senior track meet,

Of all the participants I saw at the Senior Games, there were two other men that were physical standouts. That is, they looked healthy. One guy Stephan was 69 and didn’t look a day over 50. He wasn’t taped together, he shared with me that he was a Christian who believed in following God’s principals. Stephan took vitamins and minerals and exercised regularly.  He told me he was born with a disease that should have taken his life at an early age, but his parents got him to exercise and eat good food. He said that was his only explanation for why he looked so young.

So back to my performance!

I entered three events and got two silvers medals in the sprints and a bronze in the shot put. The best part was that I had a great time interviewing the other contestants. It was probably the best education I have received in a long time.

77 year old Russ Colgan beats everyone by a mile at the Senior Games. (figuratively)

The other guy who looked healthy and had no braces was a retired Chiropractor named Russ Colgan. Russ beat everyone in every race he entered. The most impressive race he ran was the 200 meters. He didn’t just beat the other contestants in his age group, 75-80, he crushed them.

Russ not only beat the guys his age but he beat the 50 year old studs by a good 5 meters. That event is a killer, you have to sprint the entire way and your body never gets it’s second wind. Consequently, you are running on only the oxygen stored in your muscles. Russ killed all the other competitors.

What is Senior Games phenom, Russ’s secret?

I sat down with Russ after the meet was over and got to have a good interview. He made reference to the Bible and his eating habits, but he also said that he believed his unusual success came from putting into practice the theories of Otto Warburg.

So who was Otto Warburg?

Otto Warburg was born in 1883 to a Jewish father and a protestant mother. His father eventually accepted Jesus and became a  Christian. Otto’s family and Albert Einstein’s family were close friends. Otto and Albert became life long friends. He joined the military and was awarded the iron cross but his friend Albert successfully persuaded  him to leave the military and get back to his profession as a doctor.

Einstein felt that Otto’s real gift to mankind was to do medical research. He turned out to be right, Otto was nominated for the Nobel prize in medicine, 47 times, and finally received the award for his work with cancer treatments.

Bible, health, wellness, science, Otto Warburg, cancer, Senior track meet,

Otto boiled his theory down to one statement,

“the prime cause of cancer is the replacement of the respiration of oxygen in normal body cells by a fermentation of sugar. “[7]

According to the Phenom senior athlete, Russ Colgan, changing your body Ph and getting more oxygen into your cells isn’t just for cancer. According to Russ it is the most important factor in aging, immune systems and healthfulness. He said that there are medical clinics that can test you for these factors and it only costs about 20 dollars. He also highly recommend getting an Ionizer machine, which changes the ph of water to more alkaline state.

So what foods lower your oxygen levels and get your pH level below 7?

These are acidic foods to avoid!

  • processed foods.
  • sodas and other sweetened beverages.
  • Alcohol
  • Coffee & Black Tea
  • Fruit Juice (sweetened)
  • Cocoa
  • Mustard
  • Vinegar
  • Yeast
  • Pork
  • Shellfish
  • Artificial Sweeteners

Foods that you should eat that will raise your pH above 7!

Foods that will improve your immune system and destroy cancer cells.

  • pH 9.5 Water (water produced  by an ionizer)
  • Green Drinks
  • Himalayan Salt
  • Regular Salt
  • Avocado
  • Broccoli
  • Cabbage
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Garlic
  • Grasses (alfalfa, kamut, straw, shave, wheatgrass, etc.)
  • Kale
  • Parsley
  • Sprouts (alfalfa, bean, pea, soy, etc.)
  • Spinach
  • Tomato

Note!

Our philosophy is that God knows best what we should eat and not eat. Our bodies are so complicated that interactions of different foods can make changes that we are unaware of. So, we will try things that seem to be working for people but if what they are advocating is at odds with the scriptures we will default back to what God said. Consequently we have not put the foods God has recommended in the foods to avoid category, even if they are considered to be acidic. Red meat is one of those foods. It is interesting to note that many of the foods in the acidic category are foods God has forbidden us to eat.

I Hope this weeks blog has been helpful, it just may be the secret to help you get to your most healthy you! God bless and have a great week.

Bloody noses, pulled muscles, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, ruptured appendix, sprained ankles, white hair, crows feet, and sagging skin. If you have two or more of these ailments, this one thing could save your life!

Copper, Bloody noses, Hemorrhoids, Pulled muscles, Sprains, Wrinkles, Sagging skin, Gray hair, Varicose veins, Crow’s feet, Christine Kellermann, Chris Schauermann, Nathan Schauermann

Have you ever suffered from any of the following?

  • Bloody noses
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Pulled muscles
  • Sprains and strains
  • Varicose veins
  • Ruptured appendix
  • Wrinkles
  • Sagging skin and body parts
  • Gray hair
  • Crow’s feet around your eyes

Looking back,

Looking back, I realize that a lot of my physical problems were related to copper deficiencies. I suffered from constant bloody noses. For no apparent reason my nose would just start bleeding. In college, I begged a doctor to just cauterize the vein to my nose, thank God he refused. Right after college I suffered from a ruptured appendix that almost killed me. I suffered from hemorrhoids while playing sports, which is no fun.  As an athlete, I was always spraining my ankles. [3]  I had a really bad one, the first week of my junior year. That sprain kept me sidelined from football the rest of the season.

Pulled muscles

Pulled muscles had always been a problem for me, but the problem got much worse after I had a physically traumatic experience climbing Pikes Peak (the summit is 14,110 feet high). The last 3 hours of the climb I was just surviving. I remember telling myself to just keep moving, just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I now realize that that event had depleted my already low mineral levels.  I just didn’t feel right for months. This is a common experience for people who have had any kind of physical trauma.  Joel Wallach says, “Exercise without supplementation is suicide”. When I finally realized what I was suffering from, I took massive amounts of vitamins and minerals. About two weeks later, the symptoms were gone.  I was my old self again, except for the pulled muscles.

Copper, Bloody noses, Hemorrhoids, Pulled muscles, Sprains, Wrinkles, Sagging skin, Gray hair, Varicose veins, Crow’s feet, Christine Kellermann, Chris Schauermann, Nathan Schauermann
Christine, Nathan and his friend seem to be so cheery to have made it to the top, that was not the emotion I was experiencing!

Long warm-ups and stretching did not help!

I started doing long warm-ups and stretching sessions, before playing soccer, only to pull a muscle after only a few minutes of play. On one occasion, I actually thought someone had thrown a rock at me and hit me in the calf. I looked for the rock and the thrower only to discover a muscle in my calf had ruptured.

On another occasion, I was helping coach my son Peter’s soccer team. At practice, he challenged me to a foot race, we Schauermann’s are fairly competitive! He was 18 and the captain of the team, I was 41 but I thought I could still keep up with him. So, we lined up on the touch line and someone said go, we were neck and neck about halfway down the field, when all of a sudden, it felt like a giant had grabbed my leg and thrown me to the ground. When I got up I looked and the entire thigh muscle of my left leg was torn, leaving a large hole that is quite visible to this day.

What was the problem?

Copper is the necessary nutrient for elasticity in our tissues. Our muscles, skin, arteries and veins need copper in order to stretch and return to normal. Without an adequate amount of copper in our diet, our tissues will rip, tear and break instead of stretching. God intended for us to have copper in our diets. He gave the children of Israel a land that was full of copper.

Deuteronomy 8:7, 9     “ For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills;  a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.”

I happen to live in the Pacific North West of the United States, which is noted for a lack of copper in the water and soil. [4] Farmers in our area have known for centuries that they need to supplement their animals with copper if they don’t want to lose animals to a variety of diseases.

The Solution!

After listening to a lecture by Dr. Joel Wallach, I started taking 2 mg of copper a day. After only a couple of weeks, I was able play soccer with only a minimum of warming up and stretching. The pulled muscles were gone along with the bloody noses, hemorrhoids, and sprained ankles etc. I literally have not had one of those ailments since I started taking copper.

The really big deal about copper!

Now for the most important information about copper; the most permanent symptom of copper deficiency is death. The most dangerous symptom of a copper deficiency is a ruptured aneurysm which usually ends in death.  If your veins aren’t elastic, they, like your muscles, will rip or rupture instead of stretching.  If you have any of the symptoms I have mentioned, get some copper today. It is cheap and the capsules are some of the smallest and easiest to take. They could literally save your life.

Copper, Bloody noses, Hemorrhoids, Pulled muscles, Sprains, Wrinkles, Sagging skin, Gray hair, Varicose veins, Crow’s feet

Here is Dr. Joel Wallch’s lecture, that saved my life!

“Copper is required as a co-factor to manufacture hair pigment, doesn’t matter whether it is red, blonde, brown or black hair, and I see a lot of copper deficiency in this room. I can almost tell you which people, men and women, have colored their hair. I’m good at that, being a physician, and you don’t want to be like a medical doctor and just treat the symptoms. If you are coloring your hair, you are just treating the symptoms.

You need to do the basic things, take some colloidal copper, and if you don’t what’s going to happen is, you get a breakdown in the elastic fibers of your skin, and you begin getting crows’ feet around the corners of your eyes and mouth, parts of your anatomy begin to sag, and you know you’re in trouble when your doctor tells you “I’ve got a golf buddy down the hall who is a plastic surgeon. And for $10,000 he’ll make you look 20 years younger. But you don’t need face-life, a booby-lift, a tummy-tuck, or a derriere-lift.

Colloidal Copper

All you need is some colloidal copper and everything will come back up, just like you had a hydraulic jack under it. It will just come right back up. Those elastic fibers tighten right up. They’ll say, “Francine, did you get a face lift? You look like you are 20 years younger.” Now if you don’t take some action at that point, the next thing that happens is, breakdown in your elastic fibers in the large veins of your legs and you get varicose veins. You don’t take action at that point, you get a breakdown in the large veins of your exhaust pipe and you get hemorrhoids.

So if you have hemorrhoids, varicose veins, things that sag, wrinkles, white, gray or silver hair, the odds are you have aneurysms developing in you somewhere, and you don’t want to, of course, die suddenly of a ruptured aneurysm when your body has been warning you for 10, 20, 30 years.

Just remember, people don’t die suddenly of an aneurysm, it may be you drop and die. Think about Albert Einstein. He died of a ruptured aortic aneurysm at 68 years of age. What color was his hair? He was famous for wild, white hair, wasn’t he? Now you would like to think that people who win the Nobel Prize in Medicine at least live to be 75.5, but they live to be 58 just like other doctors. And that’s because they are trained, and they believe, and practice that they can get everything you need from your four food groups. Doesn’t matter if you win the Nobel Prize or not.

Even genius Doctors can be wrong, dead wrong!

This guy, Dr.George Kohler, was the youngest person ever to win the Nobel Prize in Medicine in history. 37 years old, wins the Nobel Prize in Medicine, and he won it by studying monocline antibodies, which antibodies trained to attack cancer cells. If they ever get this really working, it will be great, because they won’t have to use chemo-therapy anymore, which kills more people than it saves. Eleven years after winning the Nobel Prize in Medicine, Dr. George Kohler, now 48, drops dead of a cardiomyopathy heart attack, because he believed/practiced that you can get everything you need from your four food groups. Didn’t take any selenium, died of a cardiomyopathy heart attack.

Even top athletes can be wrong, dead wrong!

Now I have to tell you, why athletes are early warning systems. Couch potatoes, by definition, are people who go to extraordinary efforts not to sweat. They make every human effort not to sweat. They are changing the TV channels, “Honey, bring in the popcorn, I’m changing the channels. Honey, bring in the TV Guide, I’m changing the channels.”

Well, by contract, athletes have the attitude, “no pain, no gain”. They are out there sweating, working away, power-training, strength training, running and they sweat. Athletes, no matter of age, sweat more in 5 years than couch potatoes do in 70 years. And when you sweat, you don’t just sweat out potassium and Gatorade, you sweat out all 60 essential minerals.

If you sweat out all your selenium and you don’t replace it by supplementation, you’re at high risk of getting a cardiomyopathy heart attack. You sweat out all your copper and don’t replace it by supplementation, you’re at high risk of developing an aneurysm and dying suddenly of a ruptured aneurysm. If you sweat out all your chromium and vanadium and don’t replace it by supplementation, you’re at high risk of getting diabetes. And if you sweat out all your calcium and magnesium, boron and zinc, and sulfur, and other minerals that are required for cartilage, ligaments, tendons, connective tissue, bone, you’re going to get a joint/bone injury.

What is the biggest single cause of an athlete’s career being ended early? Joint and bone problems, right? It’s because they sweat out all the basic minerals they need to maintain those parts of the body and they don’t supplement with them because doctors tell them they can get everything they need from the four food groups.

Early warning system for mineral deficiencies!

What is the early warning system for mineral deficiencies? Well, I already told you about white, gray or silver hair for a copper deficiency. Liver spots or age spots on the back of your hand, side of your face or neck is caused by a selenium deficiency. And you know, again, about selenium deficiency. Then, of course, you have toe cramps, leg cramps, hypertension. These things are all caused by a deficiency of calcium, and if you’re an athlete at age 25 or 15, and you get a leg cramp, it’s a calcium deficiency. Your body is telling you, if you don’t stop drinking those Pepsi’s and start supplementing with some calcium, by the time you are 40, 50, 60 years old you’re going to suffer with arthritis and osteoporosis.”

Where to start?

Joel Wallach discovered our need for copper by study and research. God recommended the land of Israel for his people, because it contains a wide variety of nutrients essential for plant and human life, including copper. But, if you live somewhere other than Israel you will probably have to supplement.

There are so many positive benefits to supplementing your diet, what are you waiting for? Get some copper, selenium etc. or just order Youngevity’s Mighty 90. Mighty 90 contains all 90 essential nutrients including copper. I just want you to live out your God given destiny, and you’re going to have to have a well functioning body to do that.

Next week

Next week we are going to discuss the Biblical mandate for scientific research and discovery. We are going to answer the question, “Why have so many sciences been started and dominated by Christians? And why are there so many scientific research scandals in our present day and age.”

Childbirth part ll; Nutrition and exercises for an enjoyable pregnancy!

Childbirth and pregnancy

Childbirth and pregnancy are not a pleasant experience for many women!

Childbirth and pregnancy

When Shary was just beginning to consider teaching childbirth classes, a dear friend of ours, Betty Warren, called one night and asked Shary  to come to the hospital, a friend of ours from church was having a really hard time in first stage labor and Betty thought Shary might be able to help. Betty was one of the OB nurses at Forest Grove Community Hospital, she had also been our childbirth instructor. So Shary headed right over to see what she could do. When Shary got there our friend was jumping out of bed with each contraction, grabbing the end of the hospital bed, start rocking and yelling. (By the way, this is not the best technique for first stage labor, we’ll talk more about that next week)  While she was yelling in pain her husband sat reading the newspaper and her mother sat near her,  saying, “This is just one of those things you just can’t get out of”.

So often, as we began to teach childbirth classes, we were told that many of the common problems with pregnancy were unavoidable. We were assured that you just have to suffer through these things. Often this advice came from doctors but it also came from family members, friends and even well-meaning clergy. But, over and over we found people who had discovered solutions to those problems. We would try the things they suggested, and more often than not, their ideas worked. We believe the Bible when it says, “God will remove all sickness from you.”(Exodus 23:25-27)That means that there is a solution to every disease, we just need to preserver and find out what that solution is.

Some of the common ailments associated with childbirth, we were told, have no cure. Toxemia, stretch marks, constant back pain, varicose veins, permanently damaged stomach muscles, permanently damaged kegal muscle, heartburn, high blood pressure, cesarean-section and seizures to name a few, were said to be normal. It is no wonder most women don’t want to have babies; who could blame them? But, over and over we found people who had discovered solutions to those problems and that is a big reason we, and many of our students, continued to have children when others have decided it just isn’t worth the trouble.

Genesis 1:27-28a
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.”

Psalm 127:3-5a
Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him.
4 Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
5 Happy is the man whose quiver is full of them!”

God wants us to have children, but all the “common” problems modern women have in childbirth make it almost crazy to consider.

So did God have a better plan? Sure he did, not only did he want us to be fruitful and multiply but he said that people who have many children are blessed and happy. He also said that if we would listen to his advice and follow his laws he would remove all disease from us, he would bless our wombs, none would miscarry and he would give us a full lifespan.

So what have we found that would help you have a relatively problem free birth?

First, in childbirth, what you eat is your main priority!

If you gave your home builder some straw and asked him to make you a house you would end up with a home like the one the big bad wolf blew down!

childbirth, pregancy and nutrition

If you gave your home builder, good lumber, bricks and mortar, he could build you a house the big bad wolf couldn’t blow down.

Childbirth, pregnancy and nutrition

The same thing is true when making a baby, if you give your body materials like what is pictured below; your body cannot build a healthy baby, nor can it keep you healthy while it is trying to create this new life. One of the reasons so many people miscarry, or give birth to babies with birth defects, is because their  bodies simply didn’t have the raw materials necessary to do the job. Proverbs 23:1-3 says, “When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony, do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive.”

childbirth, preganancy and nutrition

Babies bodies are primarily made up of calcium and protein. Milk is a high-quality source of calcium and eggs are the best protein you can consume.

Childbirth, pregnancy and nutrition

The basis for a great pregnancy diet is 1 quart of milk and two eggs each day. This gives your body the basics for building a healthy baby. For more detail check out this link. http://wellnessgospel.net/index.php/2017/02/18/childbirth-part-l/

Secondly, there are exercises that will make childbirth much more enjoyable and get you back into your pre-pregnant condition right after the birth.

Exercises for comfort, health and beauty.

1. Tailor sitting as often as possible, will help you limber up for birth. Shary actually took the legs off our dining room table with our first pregnancy. We ate tailor sitting on the floor, not my favorite position. Later, she let the rest of us sit on chairs while she ate sitting on a trunk, pulled up to the table.

childbirth, pregancy and exerciese

2. Squatting. When you go to pick up your kids toys or maybe even your husband’s cloths, squat down instead of bending over. Women who are comfortable squatting, find birthing much easier and are less likely to tear during birth. It is also much better for your back, which means fewer problems later in life.

childbirth, pregnancy and exercises

3. Pelvic rocks, 40, 40 and 80. Do 40 in the morning, 40 at noon, and 80 before you go to bed at night. This is truly the secret weapon of childbirth exercises. It solves many of the common problems associated with pregnancy, delivery and post-partum. Pelvic rock exercises, if done as prescribed, can eliminate back problems in pregnancy. They also help get the baby in the proper position for birth and will produce a flat stomach right after the birth. Pelvic rocks are done on your hands and knees by rotating your pelvis all the way down and then all the way up, for one pelvic rock. Speed is not the goal, rotating as far down as possible and as far up as possible is where the benefit comes. You are literally dropping the baby down and out of the birth canal and then pulling the baby back up tight. This strengthens the stomach muscles so that after the birth your stomach will be back to normal. When these muscles are strengthened, they take pressure off your back and the ligaments that hold the baby in place, making pregnancy much more enjoyable.

childbirth, pregnancy and exercises

4. Sleep or nap in the side running position at least 8 hours a day. Your body needs rest in order to keep you healthy and make a healthy baby. Lay on your side with your bottom leg straight and your upper leg bent. This is the best position for you and your baby. Sleeping on your back actually constricts the blood flow to the baby and sleeping on your stomach is never advised. Sleeping on your stomach simply becomes less possible the more pregnant you get. One time at the beach Shary had me dig her a hole in the sand so she could put her stomach in it. Her plan was to get some sun on her back, as you might guess, it didn’t work very well.
5. Aerobics, 2 mile walk, 5-6 days a week. Any exercise that elevates your heart rate and increases your breathing, is a benefit to pregnancy and childbirth. But, we have found that walking is almost a fool-proof way to assure a quick easy birth. Whenever we hear about a very easy and quick birth we ask what kind of exercise the mother did, almost every time we are told they walked outdoors a lot. So if you want an easy, no complications birth, this is a must.
6. Kegel, 10 times each urination or at least 100 times a day. There are several reasons why it is important to exercise this muscle. First, you need to have control of the muscle during the actual birth. When you relax the muscle, the baby is able to come more quickly. This exercise helps you to become aware of the muscle when it is relaxed, and when it is tense. If this muscle has been exercised and is in good tone at birth, it will stretch as the baby’s head comes through, like a rubber band. If it is in poor shape, it will be drug down the birth canal with the baby, and in the case of an episiotomy, it may be cut. Second, it improves the ability of the muscle to return to normal bladder and rectal control after the birth. Third, it makes intercourse more comfortable and improves a mother’s ability to achieve vaginal orgasm after giving birth. This muscle also keeps the bladder in the proper position. Many women complain that their bladder has dropped after birthing and has never returned to it’s normal condition, causing life long problems. The design of the western style toilet makes this even worse. Most other cultures squat when they go to the bathroom. The modern invention of the Squatty Potty was developed to solve this problem.

Childbirth, pregancy and exercises

Directions for Kegel exercises;
a. Practice when you are urinating by spreading your legs and tightening the vagina, stopping the flow of urine so that you are letting out only a teaspoon at a time.
b. Try squeezing the sides of the vagina together: squeeze from the bottom up, rather than starting with the abdomen which is at the top.
c. The rectum will squeeze together as you are squeezing the vagina. This is perfectly normal and, in fact, cannot be avoided.
d. Squeeze the vagina together slowly, and when you are squeezing full strength, hold to a count of three. Give a final short squeeze before relaxing, even though you may already think you are squeezing full strength. It is alright to use the abdomen during this “last effort”.
e. Relax the muscle, count to three, and relax again. The idea is to be able to get as much movement in the muscle as possible, hence the maximum contraction and the maximum relaxation. This builds the muscle strength quickly.
f. It is important to do the exercises throughout the day rather than all at tone time. Good times are morning, prior to arising, evening at bedtime, and times in between when you go to the bathroom. Other than those done while urination, the exercises should be done either lying flat or while standing.

Thirdly, miscellaneous tips!

a. To combat stretch marks, varicose veins or hemorrhoids, take 4 mg copper each day.
b. To specifically combat varicose veins, increase pelvic rocking, elevate legs at ten minute intervals, do foot circles, leg stretches and take Vitamin E (d-alpha tocopheral is the only type that works).
c. For leg cramps, point your heel till it stops and increase your calcium intake.
d. For heartburn, do not take antacids or baking soda, they destroy your B vitamins (energy vitamins). Eat slower, frequent, small meals throughout the day; sugar makes it worse. Place your hands on your ribs and take deep breaths to separate your ribs.
e. If you are having some problems in pregnancy that we did not cover or you have a friend or loved one who is having pregnancy issues, send us a comment and we will do our best to get you an answer.

Exercise, how much is enough?

Jeanne Calment 122 years old

Exercise less, eat ice-cream and live longer!

Exercise, how much is enough?

Experts are constantly telling us that we need to exercise more in order to live well and long. God’s word says that our strength should equal our days, and that he wants you to live a sickness free and full lifespan. Genesis 6:3 states that a full lifespan is approximately 120 years. Many people in the Bible lived this long, and people today are living this long, so why not you? Somebody is going to live a full lifespan, might as well be you.

Jeanne Calment is one person who accomplished this and it wasn’t because of her genetic makeup. She outlived her daughter and grandson who carried her genetic make-up.  So contrary to what we have been told, the Bible says it is what you do, not your genes, that determines how well and how long you will live.

exercise 6

Jeanne Calment Did not live to be 122 by strenuous exercise, she was reportedly neither athletic nor fanatical about her health2. She did stay active with varied pursuits like taking up fencing at the age of 85. She went for leisure walks till she was 114. The idea that militant physical exercise is your ticket to a long and full lifestyle is popular but is not biblical, and doesn’t work. So, is exercise necessary and if so how much is enough?

I Timothy 4:8                                                                                        Physical training (Exercise-KJV) is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.”

Paul was telling Timothy that there was value in physical training but that it was not the most important thing; that godliness has eternal value. The question then is, should we spend time exercising our bodies when they will not be of any value in heaven? In heaven we will be getting new bodies, so why spend time on them down here?  Paul was letting Timothy know that there was some value if it was kept in perspective.  Jesus gave us that perspective.  He told the disciples that the reason they could not pray with him, but instead fell asleep, was not because they didn’t want to, instead, it was because their bodies were weak.  His statement to them is recorded in the Gospel of Matthew 26:41…

Your spirit is willing but your body is weak.”

Our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit and need to be strong enough to get the job done that God has called you and me to do.  Physical training is of some value.  But it is not the end-all and be-all that many profess.  We are encouraged in Proverbs not to be sluggards or lazy.  In the Ten Commandments we are admonished to work six days, and rest one day.  In Genesis 3:19 we are told that we will work by the sweat of our brow.  There needs to be some sweating.  It is interesting to note that people who live to be over one hundred have engaged in some kind of regular work that kept them physically strong and healthy without overdoing it.

I would suggest that you do something six days a week that gives your body a cardiovascular workout.  That is, it elevates your heart rate and increases your breathing. Walking is great, it’s not only great exercise, but it is relaxing.  Doctor Ogie Shaw, an expert in exercise, says that walking one mile per day will reduce a woman’s chances of getting cancer by half3, wow, that is substantial.

In a study published by Readers Digest April 2005, researchers at the Cooper Institute in Golden Colorado, found that three hours of exercise per week was just as effective in combating mild and moderate depression as antidepressant drugs.  People who exercise just one hour and 20 minutes a week had no improvement.4

Now for some cautions:

We have been sold a bill of goods.  We have been told that the more we exercise, the better our health will be, and the longer we will live.

To quote Dr. Joel Wallach, “That one message has done more harm than all the wars in recent history.” The average athlete, depending on the severity of the sport, lives approximately 62-68 years. That is, they live between 7 and 13 years less than the average American who does very little in the way of exercise.  One hundred thousand athletes die each year during sporting events. According to the Center For Disease Control, these one hundred thousand athletes under the age of 50 died suddenly from cardiomyopathy heart attacks or ruptured aneurisms. Many of these young men and women, boys and girls looked incredibly healthy and had beautiful, strong muscles. So why are they dying by the thousands?  After doing tens of thousands of autopsies, Doctor Joel Wallach has come to the conclusion that most of these unfortunate athletes were suffering from trace mineral deficiencies brought on by regular strenuous exercise without replenishing vital nutrients.5   Our local community went into shock when a 15 year old athlete collapsed during a workout at swim practice. Andrew Nygaard died of cardiac arrest. Mayor Willis Vandusen called him “the most talented swimmer that Astoria has ever produced.6 Andrew, believing the current advice that says, the more you exercise the healthier you will be. His friends said that he was a fanatic about exercise. Is it possible to exercise too much?

Most athletes sweat more in one day than most people sweat in a year. When we sweat, our sweat does not just contain water and salt, it is also rich in 60 essential minerals. If we do not eat foods rich in nutrients, or are not supplementing, we will eventually succumb to some type of mineral deficiency disease. One common mineral deficiency disease is caused by a lack of copper. Another is caused by inadequate selenium intake. A copper deficiency can lead to a ruptured aneurysm. A selenium deficiency can lead to a cardiomyopathy heart attack.  Both are generally fatal and are common among athletes.

Jim Fix, the famous runner, believed that if you ran 10 miles per day, seven days a week that you could live to be over 100.  Note that God said to rest one day a week.  Jim Fix either ignored God’s advice or never heard it. He faithfully took his own advice, running seven days a week for 20 years.  He did not supplement with vitamins and minerals.  He looked as fit as a human could look, but in 1984 at the age of 52, 15 years short of the average American couch potato, he had five heart attacks and died,

                                        According to Dr. Wallach,

                        “Exercise without supplementation is suicide.”

exercise 5

Dr. Michael P. Artees was a runner in junior high, high school and college.  After graduating from college, he continued to run every day, not taking Sunday off.  Again, it should be noted that the Bible advises us to rest one day a week.  Dr. Artees instead took his own advice instead of God’s advice.  He believed in it so much that he offered a 10% discount to any of his patients that would run with him at least two weeks per month.  So many of his patients took him up on the offer that it was said, “He looks like Forest Gump running down the road with his disciples.” But… at the ripe old age of 38 while running with his followers, he fell over and died of a cardiomyopathy heart attack, a simple selenium deficiency.5

Proverbs 13:13                                                                  “He who despises the word will be destroyed. But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.”

In contrast, Jeanne Calmet of France, a highly publicized centenarian, led a leisured lifestyle, getting regular exercise while pursuing hobbies such as tennis, cycling, swimming and roller-skating,1 Jeanne leisurely rode her bike till the age of 100, she took leisurely walks till she was 114, she did not overdo it.  She rested, and she was regular about her exercise. Consequently, she  outlived seventeen french presidents. She also outlived the 47 year old lawyer who wrote up a reverse mortgage for her when she was 90. He fully expected she would pass soon and leave him with her house after only a few years of payments to her. She lived another 32 years, long after he had passed away, leaving his relatives to continue to pay Jeanne a nice monthly sum till she died. His family eventually paid her many times the value of her home.

exercise 4

My point? A little exercise is good, but if you are doing a lot of strenuous work or exercise you need to be extra careful to eat Biblically and supplement with vitamins and minerals. My wife Shary and I take American Youngevity vitamins and minerals; they are recommended by Dr. Joel Wallach. We will talk more about vitamins in a future blog devoted to just that, what supplements are best and why.

exercise 2

Oh, about the ice-cream, I have run out of time this week, but I will share that with you next Saturday. What I tell you about healthy ice-cream will change your life!

Loose weight and get well while you sleep

rest makes you smarter

Lose weight, boost your immune system and get  smarter while you sleep and rest,    with this one secret.

Psalm 127:1,2                                                                                          “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stands guard in vain.It is in vain you rise early and stay up late, eating the bread of anxious toil, For he gives sleep to those he loves.

sleep

According to–Dr. Jeanne Wilson, “Our bodies pull in toxins from the food we eat and the environment around us every single day. And while it is ideal to cleanse your body about four times a year with the Optimal Cleanse, there is also a trick that can help detoxify your body all year long. And it’s easy! Here’s all you have to do: Go to bed by 10:30 p.m. and make sure that you sleep in the dark.  Yes, that’s it! This time is key to a successful sleep, which in turn allows the liver and other organs to fully detoxify the body and improve hormonal balance.

In Chinese Medicine we know that the liver cleans the blood between 1 and 3 a.m. and you must already be in a deep sleep before 1 a.m. to get the full detoxification benefits of the liver energies.  Sufficient rest at the right time and following the body’s natural circadian rest rhythms of sleeping when dark and up with the light is essential for healthy metabolism – and a healthy metabolism helps control weight gain!”2

God is opposed to us getting up early and staying up late. It is God’s will that we get enough sleep.  In the book “None of These Diseases”, a study notes that 26% of men who had suffered heart attacks had been working over 70 hours a week. Evidently your heart needs sleep.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, “Researchers in the Netherlands and United Kingdom compared the white blood cell counts of 15 healthy young men under normal and severely sleep-deprived conditions. The greatest changes were seen in the white blood cells”1. What they call normal sleep-deprivation will affect your immune system. Your white blood cells not only fight the common cold and flu, but also destroy cancer cells. I was talking with a woman just this week who told me that her entire family was in shock. Her mother had just been diagnosed with lung cancer and the doctors believe the cancer is spreading throughout her body. The woman told me she and her family were devastated, because their mother never smoked and always exercised. From what they had been led to believe those two things should have kept their mother safe from lung cancer, so what went wrong?

All of us have cancer cells in our bodies but when our immune system is functioning properly our white blood cells will constantly find and destroy these cells. But if our immune system is weakened by a lack of sleep these cancer cells can multiply.

According to the National Sleep Foundation “studies have associated sleep restriction and sleep deprivation with the development of diseases like obesity, diabetes and hypertension. Others have shown that sleep helps sustain the functioning of the immune system, and that chronic sleep loss is a risk factor for immune system impairment.”1

God wants us to get adequate sleep. In Psalm 127:1-2 he says “he gives sleep to those he loves.” He is offering sleep, but are we taking it? Usually, for me it is a lack of faith that causes me to rise early and stay up late. I get into the habit of believing that I can solve all my problems by working longer and harder. At the beginning of the Psalm God says that it is vain or useless to build and useless to guard, if God is not building and God is not guarding. If we listen to God and obey him, by going to bed early and getting up at a reasonable hour, he will build our house and he will guard our city. Science is now confirming that if we get enough sleep, God will build our immune system and guard our bodies from disease.

In the December 2004 edition of Time magazine researchers were quoted to say, “sleep is primarily for your mind.” They went on to say that, “your muscles need only brief periods of inactivity to recuperate, but your mind is another matter altogether. There is an incorrect sentiment that is growing rapidly in our society; it is the belief that sleep is for sissies. In contrast, researchers are proving that our minds actually get smarter while we sleep.  In studies, people increased their ability to solve a problem from 23% to 59% after a good night’s sleep.  They also had some suggestions for a good night’s sleep. “3
sleep2  A) Try to sleep at the same time each night.                                                 B) Don’t drink caffeinated drinks or eat chocolate in the p.m. and try not       to eat anything three hours before bedtime.                                                 C) Warm or hot milk will improve your sleep, while alcohol will do the           opposite.                                                                                                    D) Arguments, computers and TV, less than a half hour before bedtimes,         are detrimental.                                                                                         E) If you are still awake 20 minutes after going to bed, get up. (I suggest          you read your Bible until you get sleepy.)

The Book of Proverbs gives some similar advice for people who have a hard time getting good sleep. In Proverbs 3:21-24 we are told…

My son, let them (Biblical wisdom and understanding) not depart from your eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion: So they will be life to your soul, and grace to your neck. Then you will walk safely in your way, and your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid: yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. NKJV

The book of Ecclesiastes also gives some insight that has helped me on numerous occasions. The sleep of a laborer is sweet”, Ecclesiastes 5:12. In other words, regular physical labor or exercise will improve your sleep. If I go through a period of a few days with poor or fitful sleep, it is generally because I am stressed out about something and I have not been exercising. If I start exercising every day and go for a run just before bed time, that will usually do the trick, my sleep is like a baby again.

So how much sleep is enough? According to Dr. Pierre-Herve Luppi at the University of Lyons in France, “If you feel sleepy the following day, if you have episodes of sleepiness or a feeling of major fatigue throughout the day, it means you’re not sleeping enough.”

God loves you and me more than we know, he wants us to trust him like little children trust their parents. While we are sleeping he remains awake and will protect us. Jesus slept in the boat while his disciples were freaking out about a storm. When they woke Jesus from his sleep he said, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”

sleep3

Let’s trust Jesus more and ourselves less, let’s get to bed early and take a nap when we are tired. According to scientists, our immune systems will thank us, our waist lines will improve and our families will get to see us live out a full lifespan.

If you want to keep improving your health and like this kind of biblical, scientific information, then I would like to recommend three must-read books.

  1. “None of These Diseases” by S. I. McMillen, M.D. and David E. Stern, M.D.
  2. “Let’s Play Doctor” by Dr. Joel Wallach
  3. “God’s Guide To Biblical Health and Healing” by Rev. Chris & Shary Schauermann
